Order People's Liberty 1941-1944
Instituted: by decree, on 9th September 1945
Awarded to: Bulgarian and foreign citizens (only one foreigner). It was awarded posthumously, too.
Form: The first class is shaped as a five-angle star; it is of white enamel, gold like framed on the edge. The main star is 52 mm in diameter and lies on another, yellow colored star of 54 mm in diameter. In a gold medallion, on the enameled star is placed Christo Botev's face image. Botev was a poet and National Hero (1848-1876). Arround the image is inscribed: "For People's Liberty 1941-1944". The difference between the first and second classes is the red enamel of the five-angle star.
Emissions: The first emission is characterized by a screw back. The second one has a ribbon, and Christo Botev's face points more to the right. The third, last emission is with a left side-view of Botev's face. At first, the order is characterized by a screw back, but later on a red ribbon with one or two blue lines on the edge comes into use (for the first and second class respectively).
